COURSE OVERVIEW: NURSE ED 101 offers an exciting 30-hour IV therapy certification course that meets the requirements of the Florida State Board of Nursing. This course is for LPN’s to take prior to administering intravenous therapy and RN’s & APRN’s. Enroll in this course to sharpen your IV therapy skills. Upon purchasing the course, each student will receive a unique link with details to access the online portion of the course. The online portion of the course has multiple modules with evidence-base practice resources,  videos, case studies, quizzes and more. *All online course work is self-paced and must be completed prior to attending the in-person skills session. 

During the in-person skills session, students will be tested on a variety of clinical IV therapy competencies covered in the online portion of the course. Such competencies include inserting peripheral IV catheters, changing PICC and central line dressings and hanging and infusing IV fluids (e.g., maintenance fluids, antibiotics, blood products, TPN). Upon successful completion, students will receive a 30-hour Florida Board of Nursing CEU certificate.

COURSE CURRICULUM: This course provides an understanding of various aspects of intravenous (IV) therapy. Learn how to care for patients receiving Intravenous therapy and gain knowledge about the venous system, fluid and electrolyte balance, and peripheral veins. Explore common I.V. terms, venipuncture techniques, and different catheters, along with their function and uses. Dive into specific Intravenous therapies, understand complications associated with intravenous route, and explore different types of Intravenous equipment. Also, delve into the correct administration of Intravenous solutions, medications, parenteral nutrition, and blood transfusion. Gain awareness of legal aspects related to IV therapy, infection control standards and the scope of practice.
